Your Carlton Drive Test

Congratulations on getting to the stage of attempting the VicRoads Drive Test at Carlton.

This is your opportunity to demonstrate that you can drive confidently and safely, making all driving decisions for yourself, without support from an Instructor or Supervisor.

Your Drive Test Package, including the use of a training vehicle, is provided by Paul Mustchin, Owner, Trainer & Assessor of Doors Driver Training.

Your Trainer will support you during this process to help you with final preparations and provide a calm environment to allow you to do your best.

Before the Drive Test day, ensure that you meet all VicRoads Drive Test Requirements, including passing the Hazard Perception Test.

If you haven’t trained with Doors Driver Training before, please send a photo of your Victorian Learner Permit or International Drivers Licence to 0403152086 or paul@doorsdrivertraining.com.au.

Also, if you haven’t trained with Doors Driver Training before, have a read of the full Terms & Conditions. When purchasing a Drive Test Package, you automatically accept these Terms & Conditions, whether you’ve read them or not.

On the Drive Test day, bring the following:

  • If not prepaid, payment for the Drive Test Package. Cards or cash accepted.
  • Your Learner Permit or International Licence (plus identity documents), must be current and valid, not suspended.
  • If required, eyeglasses or corrective lenses for good long- and short- distance vision. If unsure, check with your optometrist about your eyesight for safe driving. If you have the S condition on your current permit/licence, you must wear corrective lenses, otherwise you may not be able to sit for the Drive Test.
  • Mobile phones must be on silent during the Drive Test to avoid distraction.
  • Comfortable clothing and footwear, closed-toe flat-soled shoes are recommended.

Also:

  • There are no toilets at VicRoads, prepare for this. Nearest toilets are a 10 minute drive away and may delay the start of your Drive Test.
  • Dashcam video and audio is recorded during lessons and tests, for safety, training, coaching, and insurance purposes.
  • If you need to cancel or reschedule a booking, 12 hours notice is required to avoid a cancellation fee. If you booked via ezlicence, they require 24 hours notice to avoid cancellation fee.

On the Drive Test day, here is a summary of what usually happens during the Drive Test Package:

  • Pickup from desired location or meet at VicRoads Test Centre. (By meeting at VicRoads, you get more time to warm-up and practice around the Drive Test Routes).
  • 45-min warmup lesson / practice test.
  • At Vicroads, you will need to reverse park into a testing bay 10-15 mins before your Test start time.
  • Check in at Vicroads, an LTO (Licence Testing Officer) will check your eligibility and brief you on the Drive Test requirements.
  • Return to the vehicle and prepare for the pre-drive safety check.
  • LTO instructs you to perform the pre-drive safety check, to ensure you know all the important functions of the vehicle. If you can’t complete this, or any of the vehicle functions are faulty, you may not be able to perform the Drive Test.
  • Start Drive Test, 30-40 mins.
  • The LTO will sit behind the Driving Instructor and will give you directions.
  • The Driving Instructor cannot help you during the Test, and will INTERVENE if necessary to avoid unsafe situations, such as a potential collision.
  • If you drive well, the LTO will give you your results back at the office.
  • If you make some mistakes, the LTO will give you your results back at the office.
  • If you make a serious mistake, and/or the LTO or Driving Instructor has to INTERVENE either verbally or physically using pedals or steering wheel, your Drive Test will be terminated immediately.

Also:

  • Try to drive as you would normally do with a Supervisor or Instructor, be confident and relaxed, take your time, but don’t drive too slow.
  • Many learners make mistakes during the Drive Test that they don’t normally make during Lessons. If you do make mistakes, it may highlight some areas to improve on, with additional training.
  • 1 out of 3 learners don’t pass their first Drive Test. Simply book another a Drive Test, and keep practicing. Seek a professional Driver Trainer to help identify and fix your mistakes.

As always, Travel Happy!
