Move off on an uphill grade. Move off on a downhill grade.

MOVING OFF – UPHILL

  1. Signals intention to move.
  2. Uses mirrors to check behind.
  3. Selects first gear.
  4. Applies extra rpm while slowly releasing the clutch.
  5. Holds the vehicle on the hand brake until the clutch starts to take up.
  6. Checks mirrors again and checks over shoulder.
  7. Releases the hand brake.
  8. Releases the clutch and applies gentle power.
  9. Does not roll back.
  10. Does not stall the vehicle.
  11. Steers right onto the road.
  12. Accelerates as necessary and cancels signal.
  13. Moves off without inconveniencing other road users.

MOVING OFF – DOWNHILL

  1. Signals intention to move.
  2. Uses mirrors to check behind.
  3. Selects first or second gear (dependent on grade) and keeps clutch depressed.
  4. Holds on foot brakeand releases hand brake.
  5. Checks mirrors again and checks over shoulder.
  6. Releases clutch pedal and foot braketogether.
  7. Steers right onto the road.
  8. h.. Accelerates as necessary and cancels signal.
  9. Moves off without inconveniencing other road users.
