Demonstrate the ability to move off in a straight line from a stationary position and, after moving off, bring the vehicle to a complete stop.
Moving Off / Leaving Parallel Park
- Looks ahead, left, right, behind for potential hazards
- Reverses back to create enough space in front to exit, if necessary
- Checks centre mirror
- Checks right mirror
- Signals right for 5 seconds
- Keeps looking ahead, left, right, and mirrors for new hazards
- Does a head check right immediately before moving out
- Moves out slowly and straightens up as soon as possible
- Cancels signal once straight
- Accelerates to appropriate speed
- Does not unnecessarily obstruct other vehicles or pedestriansÂ
Returning to Kerb / Forward Parallel Park
- Looks ahead to find a suitable legal car space
- Checks centre mirror
- Checks left mirror
- Signals left for 3 seconds
- Does a head check left immediately before pulling over
- Steers to the left and brakes gradually to become parallel and within 300 mm of kerb
- Stops smoothly and reverses back to final position
- Looks over shoulder out rear window immediately before reversing
- Maintains a safe stopping distance from other vehicles (1-2 metres)
- Rechecks mirrors and looks around to confirm position is correct, legal and safe
- Cancels signal after stopping at final position
