L202: BRAKING

Demonstrate progressive and cadence braking techniques.
Demonstrate correct use of ABS. (where fitted).

PROGRESSIVE BRAKING

  1. Initially applies foot brake firmly.
  2. Progressively applies brake pedal pressure as vehicle speed decreases.
  3. Looks ahead, not at the ground in front of the vehicle.
  4. Maintains two-handed steering and avoids any obstacles.
  5. Depresses clutch pedal (manual) just before stopping to prevent stalling.
  6. Stops short of any designated obstacle without excessive wheel lock-up.

CADENCE BRAKING

  1. Depresses clutch pedal (manual) to the floor and holds it there.
  2. Stabs brake pedal repeatedly to apply and release brakes.
  3. Looks ahead, not at the ground in front of the vehicle.
  4. Maintains two-handed steering and steers around any hazards.
  5. Stops short of any designated obstacle without excessive wheel lock-up.

ABS

  1. Explains basic operation and key advantages of ABS.
  2. Pushes both clutch and brake pedal fully down and leaves them there.
  3. Looks ahead, not at the ground in front of the vehicle.
  4. Maintains two-handed steering and steers around any hazards.
  5. Stops short of any designated obstacles.
