GENERAL

  1. Identifies potential hazards, predicts developments, decides on a course of action and acts on that decision.
  2. Applies the system of vehicle control in all hazard avoidance situations.

ROAD CONDITIONS

  1. Observes and reacts to all road signs and markings.
  2. Reacts to railway crossings in the correct manner.
  3. Reacts to pedestrian crossings in the correct manner.
  4. Applies a cautious, courteous and patient driving style around busy shopping areas and schools.

TRAFFIC CONDITIONS

  1. Applies 2-second rule.
  2. Applies appropriate scanning techniques around the vehicle (to the sides, behind, 12-second search ahead and where appropriate shoulder checks).
  3. Stays left in multiple lanes unless setting up to turn right or passing slower traffic.
  4. Identifies and anticipates actions of turning, oncoming traffic.
  5. Monitors parked vehicles and adjusts lane position around parked vehicles.
  6. Monitors and anticipates the movement of pedestrians.
  7. Identifies and reacts to avoid any animal on the road.
  8. Identifies and, where appropriate, gives way to other road users
  9. Monitors and anticipates the movement of cyclists.
  10. Travels at a speed that allows driver to stop in the amount of clear visible road ahead
  11. Maintains correct lane position
  12. Applies the system of vehicle control at intersections and obeys all controls.
  13. Signals in advance of all turns or change in direction

VEHICLE CONDITIONS

  1. Driving performance reflects an appreciation of the power and transmission options of the vehicle.
  2. Manoeuvres the vehicle safely with consideration to size.
  3. Vehicle speed reflects the driving conditions and posted speed limits.
  4. Maintains correct road position in all driving situations.

WEATHER CONDITIONS

  1. Drives to the prevailing weather conditions.

LIGHT CONDITIONS

  1. Takes steps to minimise the effects of any sun strike or glare.
  2. Uses vehicle head lights in any low light conditions.

DRIVER CONDITIONS

  1. Displays a courteous and patient driving style.
  2. Displays effective observation and manipulative skills.
